ARCADE were asked to carry out a feasibility study for a new Community Centre to replace the existing one on Pilton Drive. The commissioning agents were the Royston Wardieburn and Granton Co-ordinating Group which consisted of local representatives together with staff from the Granton Child and Family Centre which is incorporated in the proposals. The accommodation includes sports and leisure facilities, a computer suite, meeting and functions room, social work provision and health care facilities. The feasibility process initially involved discussions with a wide range of groups to establish briefing requirements, and an assessment of site. The existing site was considered the best option and alternative schemes were drawn up for presentation to the group and for public consultation. A preferred option was then discussed in some detail. This addressed the need to project on image of the community centre as an alternative, up-to-date a multi-functional facility. This was considered extremely important in helping to unite the different communities within the area, in ensuring that a full and varied programme of activities is established and maintained, and in accommodating the future demands of the local population. Costings were prepared, programming and funding issues addressed and the formal report presented to the group in May 2003. | |||||||||||||||||
